Dr. Bob’s Scholarship Scramble is the primary fundraising event of the Hegrenes Family Foundation. It helps fund a college scholarship for a Hutchinson-area student through the Dollars For Scholars Program.
If you cannot attend the event, please consider donating either cash or a raffle item to this worthy cause.
The three sons of Robert and Phyllis Hegrenes established the Hegrenes Family Foundation shortly after Bob’s death in 2014 following his decades-long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Phyllis passed away 9 years earlier in 2005 from ovarian cancer.
Money raised through the fund will go to benefit Hutchinson area youth. We considered having the foundation’s proceeds go to Parkinson’s or cancer research, but we thought we’d rather give back to the community that was such a big part of our family's lives.
To date, the foundation has donated to the new practice facility and junior golf program at the Crow River Golf Club, and $50,000 in scholarships through the Hutchinson High School Dollars for Scholars Program.
All proceeds from the annual Dr. Bob’s Scholarship Scramble will go to the Hegrenes Family Foundation Scholarship benefitting an ambitious and compassionate Hutchinson-area student.
Bob and Phyllis believed in the value of higher education, shared a benevolent spirit, and advocated rewarding deserving students with help towards their life’s goals. Bob also enjoyed the game of golf and spent just about every Thursday afternoon (men’s day at Crow River Golf Club) golfing with friends and enjoying a game of cards or dice afterwards. So we thought an annual golf tournament was a perfect way for friends and family of Bob, Phyllis and us Hegrenes boys to get together, have fun, and raise money for a worthy cause.
